Volunteer your skills

Do you have professional or specialist skills which could benefit your local voluntary group or organisation? Or are you a voluntary group or organisation who is looking for someone with such expertise?

If so, then your local volunteer centre would love to hear from you.

Become a trustee and help change your community

Being a trustee is richly rewarding.  With a few exceptions, anyone aged over 18 can be one.

What is a trustee?

A trustee is responsible for the running of a charity, its finances, property, employment of any staff or volunteers and for making sure that it complies with the law.

If you are enthusiastic and have good life skills then being a trustee could be for you.  Professional skills such as managerial, legal or financial are always useful but not essential and lifestyle skills are just as important.  If you have the relevant experience, your input could be crucial.

"Some of my volunteering experience has been “hands on” and still is – helping at Open Days, fetes, selling raffle tickets and all the other fund raising activities that keep a charity going. Increasingly though my role is as “behind the scenes” – committee work, grant applications, staff recruitment. I am currently vice-chair of the Trustees at Oak Tree Farm, having served as chair of a number of years, and I am heavily involved with the policy and planning aspects.
I also get a lot of personal satisfaction from seeing that I can make a difference to people’s lives and to see people enjoying things that I have helped make happen".

What trustee roles are available?

Trustees roles are varied.  Your local Volunteer Centre will be able to advise you on the roles available and the ones that are likely to suit you.

You can also browse the Do it database that has all the latest roles in Staffordshire listed.
